Muscle Mover Clinic helps children gain independence!

Note: Voting has ended and winners will be announced on December 1st at Metro United Way’s Community Pep Rally!

Description of the Innovation:

1. Summarized The Kids Center’s Muscle Mover Clinic provides a one-stop shop that gives a comprehensive medical plan of action for children with extremely tight muscles that often limit their independence and simple daily function in life.

2. What makes it unique—The Muscle Mover Clinic is the only one of its kind in our region. The typical medical experience for families whose kids have very tight muscles involves multiple visits to various specialists, with conflicting recommendations, a great deal of lag time, and a great deal of cost and frustration. Our clinic provides a “one-stop-shop” where families get a team of doctors and therapists working together who evaluate the child and come up with a plan of action in one visit. The results can dramatically improve a child’s function, self confidence, and independence while reducing costs, time and stress for families.

3. Project plan—To date our pilot clinic has assembled a team of doctors and therapists who provide evaluation and a treatment plan in one visit for children with extremely tight muscles. Funding is a major challenge, because we do not turn any child away due to lack of finances, and therefore run the clinic at a deficit compared to typical healthcare where reimbursement covers expenses. Our goal is to be the benchmark for organizations in other communities so that more children can more quickly improve their muscle movement and see their ability.

I got to meet Claudia to do the video on the Muscle Mover clinic. Her mom told me she used to keep her head down, not make a lot of eye contact, and not flash that beautiful smile. Meeting her today that is hard to believe. Smiles like Claudia’s are why this work is so needed in our region. Thanks for letting us share her story and let her light shine. And thanks to anyone who believe in this cause enough to vote!

I am so touched to see that beautiful young women like Claudia are able to achieve a level of independance that didn’t exsist before. Claudia and her mothers determination and commitment to this effort as well as the clincal staff at Muscle Mover Clinic made this possible.
I also believe that people are looking at Claudia because she is truly so beautiful. She is a remarkable young woman and I know that she will go far on her own power. AND on her own two feet.
Thank you Claudia for showing us this process. I am happy and honored to contribute.
